It’s hard to believe that on the first Independence Day in 1776, when America first celebrated its freedom from Great Britain, the American population was 2.5 million. Now it’s 316.12 million. That’s a 313.7 million person growth from then until now. Wow! Philadelphia was the largest city in 1776 with 40,000 residents. Today, there are over a dozen stadiums in the United States that each seat 40,000 or more people. Today, the population of Philly is estimated at 1,547,607, one-third the population of the current largest city, New York.
